Week of Feb. 27 to March 2

WE are rapidly working through our literature circle books and should have them all done except for any projects by the end of the week. The big event of the week besides possible teachers’ job action is the snowshoeing trip to Mount Seymour.

Some of the students in Div 4 are also organizing a shool wide book swap for the following Monday and Tuesday of next week. We hope to collect old books from all the students over the next week and swap or sell them prior to spring break.

Winn Dixie work for the week

The class is working on a character map for a character of their choice from Winn Dixie. They also will be doing “a very best” summary, question and answer, and connections for the last two chapters of Winn Dixie. We are celebrating the conclusion of the story by watching the movie on Thursday afternoon and eating home made by us, pizza.

Reading Winn-Dixie

Please read chapter 18 or Winn-Dixie and complete the following:
Summary, prediction, clarification question, 3 QAR,s (see the links on QAR’s if you are unclear), and 2 connections.

Winn-Dixie homework

Finish your summary of chapter 16 & 17. Remember feeling words. You need 3 questions in total, 1 connection for each chapter, prediction for chapter 17 only and 2 clarification questions. This is due on Thursday morning.

Reading connections

Making Connections to Reading

There are 3 types of connections that we are studying.

1.Connections to self
This type of connection is when you read something in the story and connect it to something in your own life. If the story is about cats you might connect to the fact that your grandmother has a cat.

2.Connections to text
This connection is when you connect to another story or writing you have read. It might when the story you are reading has a girl who has a special power and you remember reading another story where the character had a power something like the girl’s.

3.Connections to world
This is when something happens in the story that reminds you of something happening in the world that you have heard about or read about. It could be where the character has been caught in a fire and you remember hearing on the news that there had been a fire in Vancouver.
