Lydia or is it our new student Lidya wins and I am beginning to think there is not enough hot chocolate. Louis is also the winner of Lydia’s tooth question. Congratulations hot chocolate on Monday.
The question posed by Lydia, why do bones heal and not teeth has not been answered properly yet. Sorry Eli but under review your answer was not quite complete enough. Incidentally muscles are not what helps bones to mend it is something else in the body.
Broken bones heal and mend but poor Lidya found out last weekend when she broke a tooth playing that teeth do not. She is now having a replacement tooth part glued on. The question is:
Why do bones heal and mend but teeth do not?
A prize of a hot chocolate trip with Kevin to Starbucks.
Lidya again! And Chiara. They plus Zach received the free expense paid trip with Perveen to Starbucks for hot chocolate. We discussed the causes with CO2 and methane being the gases produced by man as the main culprits. This lead to a discussion of what produces methane gas. I pointed out cow farts is one of the biggest causes. Someone (Christine?) asked if vegetables in humans cause us to produce gas. I thought that certain ones like broccoli, turnips and brussels sprouts do. This lead us to decide that eating them might contribute to global warming.
What gas is being blamed for global warming and where does it mostly come from?
We had two winners today in the challenge question. I chose a combination of answers. The winds push the clouds into the mountains and the clouds and air are pushed higher against the mountains resulting in more rain and clouds. We decided that it might be nicer to live in Tswassen then North Vancouver as we would get more sunshine.
Looking at the picture explain why all the clouds are by the mountains and not over me when I took the picture.
I announced the winners in class today. The best two anwers pointed out that because the early european mapmakers put north at the top we always have since. Then some one in class said they thought they had seen an Australian map that puts Australia at the top so we are looking for that now.
Why when we look at maps is the north pole usually at the top of the page? Or north is always pointing to the top of the page? Give your answer in writing by Friday morning.
The prize is a free trip with Perveen to the Huskey to get a slurpy.
