Week of Feb. 27 to March 2

WE are rapidly working through our literature circle books and should have them all done except for any projects by the end of the week. The big event of the week besides possible teachers’ job action is the snowshoeing trip to Mount Seymour.

Some of the students in Div 4 are also organizing a shool wide book swap for the following Monday and Tuesday of next week. We hope to collect old books from all the students over the next week and swap or sell them prior to spring break.

Happy Holidays and the best of season to you and your family

Congratulatipns to the class you did an excellent job singing. And hold your breath, I believe our class surpassed all the others in bringing in food for the Food Bank. Five boxes to date, well done! Now have a great break, enjoy your time with your family and come back to school ready to work.

PS I enjoyed reading your stories on what Christmas is.

Friday December 2

A successful week and and field trip to CBC. We all walked back, about 5km, and arrived in time for Pizza day. Well done!

Upcoming for next week is finishing our science experiment on our homemade barometers and learning to identify clouds. A writing assignment using our new blog skills. What is Christmas? Does it mean anything special? Do you celebrate? How? If not what do you do? Is it too much about toys? In my family my Scottish grandfather always thought New Years was more important, he called it Hogmanay.

The other most important thing is to get our school winter concert production going.

Grade 5 Math test tomorrow

Math homework for November 22

Grade 5 math students are working on their chapter review getting ready for the chapter test on Thursday. Questions 1 to 4 page 75 were assigned for homework due tomorrow. Also students can review the Frequently asked questions on page 73 and 74.

Nov. 22

We are busy finishing up a lot of work from Winn-Dixie, mapping and our 3 step write. Many of the students have started on their final Winn-Dixie project. These projects range from poems, to cartoons, to acting out an interview and any thing in between. They are due next week.

A notice went home today about our next field trip to visit the CBC television newsroom. It is on next Friday Dec 2 leaving at 9 and returning at noon.

Week ending November 18

We had a busy week finishing the novel Winn-Dixie, going to the symphony, watching the movie, meeting with Saleema Noon and doing our 3- step write on our worst ever weather experience. Next week we have another shortened week no school on Friday. We will be working on a final Winn-Dixie project, finishing the first weather part of our science and starting a unit on Japanese internment.

Field trip, movie, and pizza!

Remember tomorrow we go to the symphony and we may be walking back, so be prepared to walk in the rain. It is also pizza and movie time in celebration of our family pizza work and to watch Winn-Dixie. We have just finished reading the book and now will watch the movie to see the differences and what we think about them.

Winn Dixie work for the week

The class is working on a character map for a character of their choice from Winn Dixie. They also will be doing “a very best” summary, question and answer, and connections for the last two chapters of Winn Dixie. We are celebrating the conclusion of the story by watching the movie on Thursday afternoon and eating home made by us, pizza.
